Congratulations to our 2023 VPP Print Competition Winners!

Every year, Vermont Professional Photographers compete in a photographic competition judged by trained jurors from around the nation! Their images are judged based on the Professional Photographers of America's standards for 12 elements of a merit image. About the award:  The Mack Derick Memorial Award was established in 1994 to give members a continuing incentive to create and enter images of their own production. The award is in memory of one of the founders of Vermont Professional Photographers and a lifelong craftsman of the photographic arts. Each entry must be wholly of the maker's own production, from the negative through the finished mounted print.In order to receive the Mack Derick print the competitors must compete annually until 15 points have been awarded. Past recipients include:

Vermont High Level of Excellence

GOLD

About the award:  The Gold High Level of Excellence Award is awarded to the VPP member based on Image competition performance. Six regular qualifying entries are required to be considered for this award, and a minimum of four entries must score 80 or above. The awards are based on the highest total score from the top four entries.

About the award:  The Silver High Level of Excellence Award is awarded to the VPP member based on Image competition performance. "Smokeshow" - Jamie Proctor-Brassard

Best in Show

About the award:  This award goes to the highest scoring image of all five categories by a VPP member or a jurors' choice if two images receive the same highest score, scoring 85-100,  (Excellent, Superior, Exceptional)

Member's Choice Award

About the award:  This award goes to any entry with the highest number of votes from a poll of VPP members. 


Master Court of Honor

About the award:  Any single image entry that scores 80-100 (excellent, superior, or exceptional) is eligible for a Court of Honor. These are juror choice awards of impactful images. To earn a Master Court of Honor, the entrant must hold a "PPA Master" degree.

Master of Photography (M.Photog), Master Artist (M. Artist), or Master of Wedding Photography (M.Wed.Photog.)


Best Illustrative

About the award:  This award goes to the highest scoring illustrative entry, scoring 80-100, or a jurors' choice if more than one entry is in the same highest scoring category (Excellent, Superior, Exceptional)

*Example: A score of 91 could beat a score of 93 for this award based on jurors' decision because 91 and 93 are in the same superior category.

ASP Award

American Society of Photographers


About the award:  The ASP Award is given to the highest scoring image by a Vermont ASP member (American Society of Photographers).

Master Court of Honor

The George Read Memorial Award

About the award:  Any VPP member's image in a Vermont setting is eligible for the George Read Memorial Award. The image may be a portrait, commercial, or pictorial, but must stress the natural beauty of the state of Vermont, its people, or heritage to be eligible.

VPP Creative Theme Award - "Smartphone Borne"

About the award: This year's creative theme was "Blue". VPP members may enter one image into the creative theme category that is not included in their designated print case of six images. The jurors select the image that best exemplifies and interprets the creative theme.
