Fine art photographer, Jim Westphalen began his career in 1980 as a portrait photographer on Long Island. In 1996, he reinvented himself when he moved to Vermont where he fast became recognized for his cinematic style of architectural and hospitality photography. Since 2020, he has devoted himself full-time to his fine art photography.
Known for his compelling body of work titled Vanish, Westphalen artistically documents the decay of iconic structures across rural America. He captures his dynamic images using a vintage 4x5 view camera adapted for digital capture. Largely self taught, Westphalen’s photographs have been exhibited in galleries and museums across the country. He lives in Shelburne, Vermont where he also runs his studio.
